The OCMIP boundary condition for C4MIP is ready. The information is provided as a self-describing netCDF file (fco2_airtosea_1850-2000.nc). It provides results on a 2x2 rectangular grid; the first data point is centered at 89S, 1E. Gridded variables in that file include * CO2_flux: unmasked mean monthly air-to-sea CO2 fluxes (mol/(m2 * s)) with 1 time-step for each month between January 1850 and December 2000 (i.e., 1812 time-steps). The air-sea flux given is that of the median of 11 seasonal models from OCMIP-2: CSIRO, IPSL, IPSL.DM1/HOR, LLNL, MIT, MPIM, NCAR, PRINCE, PRINC2, SOC, UL. Fluxes have already been corrected for sea-ice cover. IMPORTANT: For the "CO2_flux" array, the land points on the 2 x 2 degree standard grid have been flooded with adjacent ocean values. Such an approach will avoid discontinuities at land-sea boundaries during future interpolation by the coupled modelers (all with different ocean grids). After interpolation, coupled modelers should multiply the CO2_flux field on their grid times their ocean grid's land mask (land=0; ocean=1). Climatological sea-ice cover has already been accounted for in the OCMIP-2 model output.
